Clarborough & Welham IT Group have been providing computer-based tuition for more than 15 years and have been one of the biggest providers of computer tuition in the area. Based in Clarborough Village Hall (DN22 9LN), the Group provides sessions designed for absolute beginners through to more accomplished IT users. Prices are kept low to provide maximum access.

School Kids can often teach parents and grandparents a few things about computers. Like to repay them with advice of your own? Why not join our local IT Group’s classes?

Our Spring 2024 classes resume in January - Saturday afternoons from 13th January to 10th February, 2024.

Increasing enquiries about options for owners of Windows 10 computers (laptops and PCs) whose machines cannot be upgraded to Windows 11 has led to a change in focus of our IT Group. Read overview of Spring 2024 classes here...

Having personal experience of Ubuntu Linux, a real alternative to Microsoft’s offering, led to moves to reopening our IT Group in autumn 2023 to demonstrate how much Linux is a real alternative to Windows. Read much, much more here...

Classes traditionally start with ‘Gardeners Question time’ during which class members set the priorities for lessons.

Our Enrolment Form here contains a lot of useful information about the Group and its support. You will also need a completed copy of this form to hand over in your first lesson when you can also make payment by cheque or cash.

The group currently has a waiting list of people interested in our courses - we desperately need more people willing to lead groups - from absolute beginners to those with more advanced skills across a wide range of areas such as digital image editing, practical use of spreadsheets to family history research to name but a few. If you feel you have something to offer as a volunteer, please get in touch...

Latest news! Microsoft has announced that although Windows 11 is now in full distribution, they will be supporting Windows 10 until Autumn 2025 so no need to worry if you are still using Windows 10.

For Microsoft’s own overview of Windows 11, click here... (but be aware that this is their own advertising!)

Time to get into Windows 10? Microsoft withdrew all support - including security ‘patches’ for Windows 7 on 14th January, 2020. If you’re still using Windows 7 come to our classes to find out how easy it is to become familiar with Windows 10.

Microsoft also announced the end to all support for their Office 2010 suites from 13th October, 2020. Why not find out about the alternatives to Microsoft Office? We offer tuition in Apache OpenOffice and Document Foundation LibreOffice - and both are free, open-source, applications too - see Open Source at top of this page for more.

Microsoft’s pattern of ceasing support for earlier versions will continue with Windows 10 which they say will cease to get support in Autumn 2025 in the light of recent releases of Windows 11.

Our IT Group also seeks to provide back-to-work skills - click here to read more...

Clarborough & Welham Newsletter (see current and back issues here) is produced by our IT Group using so-called open-source applications. In a practical sense this means they are free! If you’d like to get advice and guidance in producing professional publications why not enrole now?
