Yes, you’re on the right page! Stille Nacht is the German name for what the English-speaking world know as Silent Night. The carol was composed, in quite a hurry, in the Austrian village of Oberndorf near Salzburg.

The original words were composed by Joseph Mohr and the melody was created by his friend Franz Gruber; it was first performed on Christmas Eve, 1818.
