IMPORTANT CHANGES to the Oil Buying Scheme
The Nottinghamshire Community Oil Buying Scheme has been operating since November 2011. The scheme was developed with the aim of helping people in homes, community buildings and businesses in rural Nottinghamshire save money on their oil, particularly those in fuel poverty.
The scheme is working well for our members, having ordered 1,732,240 litres of oil and saved collectively a total of approximately £93,432.56* since starting. Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire (RCAN) wants to ensure that the scheme continues to operate and needs to grow its membership. To do this effectively it is essential to improve the efficiency of the scheme.
What’s changing?
We are moving the operating system to the internet. Members can register, order and pay for oil online. If you don’t have access to the internet, you can continue to order your oil through the Project Officer at RCAN (01623 727 600). We will no longer be charging an annual membership fee. Instead, a small levy will be applied to the oil order each month. When you want to order your oil you will have to specify an exact number of litres (minimum 500 litres). There will no longer be the option to request that your oil tank is ‘topped up’. You will still be able to request an additive and add any comments.
For the April 2017 order onwards you will need to pay for your oil by debit or credit card via the new secure website before delivery.

The website will be available soon to register and place orders. From 1st April 2017, anyone wishing to place an order will need to register debit or credit card details on the website to place an order. Your payment will only be taken from the card 24 hours after you have been advised of the oil price.
What do I need to do?
If you are not able to register directly online yourself or through a friend, neighbour or family member, then contact Melanie Saxton at RCAN who will manage your information on the new website, operated by eSmartMetrics and branded as olive, on your behalf.
The new system has been designed to be as simple and straightforward as possible, so I am hopeful it will work well for the majority.
